Ronald Reagan was elected president of the United States of America in 1980. Reagan wanted a policy towards preventing the spread of communism and initiating a considerable buildup of United States military power to challenge the Soviet Union. Ronald Reagan wanted to attack communism and keep nations from turning into communist nations. “But bearing what we cannot change and going on with what God has given us, confident there is a destiny, somehow seems to bring a reward we wouldn’t exchange for any other. It takes a lot of fire and heat to make a piece of steel.”-Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan did not take things lightly and was ready to do whatever it took to beat what he set out to do whether it is communism or drugs. Ronald Reagan then directly challenges Soviet Union and demanded the dismantle the Berlin Wall. He says “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!”
The Reagan Administration preceded the War on Drugs, publicized through anti-drug campaigns including the Just Say No campaign of First Lady Nancy Reagan.
